Foster's Archibong is top artist for 2nd consecutive year

Lamar CISD artists once again displayed their talents, competing in the Lamar CISD Art Show.

The top works at the high school level will be part of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s annual art competition. Those works will compete against art from around the Houston Area for scholarship money and a spot in the Art Show Auction.

"If Scout Could Talk," a painting by Michael-David Archibong, a junior at Foster High School, was Best in Show. This is Archibong’s second consecutive Best in Show in the District’s annual Rodeo Art contest.

"Watchful Eyes," a painting by Katelyn Clack, a senior at Foster, earned a Gold Medal, as did "Flank Rider," a monochromatic drawing by Alexander Chulzhanov, a senior at Foster.

High School Special Merit Awards went to:

• “El Vaquero y El Caballo Bonito,” colored drawing by Lauren Buchwalter, a George Ranch High School 9th grader;
• “The Dilemma,” colored drawing by Dylan Rolon, Foster, 11;
• “Domino Twins,” colored drawing by Chloe Marcheli, Foster,12;
• “Violet,” mixed medium by Sonali Puri, Foster, 10;
• “White Gold,” mixed medium by Xienna Khim, Foster, 10;
• “Belleza Negra (Black Beauty),” colored drawing by Gariela Salazar, 10, George Ranch;
• “Play It Again, Larry,” monochromatic drawing by Timmy Tran, 10, George Ranch; and 
• “Picture Perfect Sunrise,” colored drawing by Gracie Lian, 10, George Ranch.

Junior High Best of Show went to Monroe Flower by Alex Velasquez, 8th grade, Reading Junior High. The Junior High Gold Medal went to The New Girl by Maria Ospina, 8th grade, Reading.

Elementary Best of Show went to "Rooster on the Roof" by Rylan Ricklefson, 4th grade, Long Elementary School. The Elementary Gold Medal went to "Paradise in the Pasture by Jared Hubbell, 4th grade, Adolphus Elementary. The works of the elementary and junior high students will also be on display at the Rodeo.
