George Ranch High School’s Longhorn Players finished the first half of their two-week trip to the United Kingdom with the honor of performing the first play ever produced in the Church Hill Theatre venue at the Edinburgh Theatre Fringe Festival.
The Church Hill Theatre is a former church renovated to be a fully-functioning theatre. It is the largest facility being used as part of the American High School Theatre Festival.
Many audience members were moved to tears during the Longhorn Players’ performance of “The Laramie Project.” The play, by Moises Kaufman, tells the story of Matthew Shepard, the young gay man who was beaten and left to die against a fence post in Laramie, WY, in 1998 and whose subsequent death led to the creation of the first anti-hate crime legislation.
The Longhorn Players will perform “The Laramie Project” three more times before the end of the Fringe Festival and Sept. 3 at George Ranch High School.
