During Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September, Lamar CISD led the “Make a Change” campaign at all campuses to raise funds for local nonprofit, Tackles4Cancer.
The campaign ran from Sept. 10-28 and Lamar CISD students, staff, parents and community members collected $30,189.47 to improve the lives of children with cancer by providing transportation.
Lamar Junior High students and Principal Creighton Jaster presented the check to Tackles4Cancer Founder Dominic Austin at the October board meeting on behalf of Lamar CISD.
Founded shortly after Austin’s cancer diagnosis, Tackles4Cancer aims to improve the quality of life for cancer patients by providing transportation services. They organize fundraisers and community-building events to support that mission.
“I started this organization when I was personally going through this journey and I had to walk alone,” said Austin. “I’m so grateful that Lamar CISD supports what we’re doing and is helping provide transportation to other cancer patients that need assistance.”
