Chapter 3696 of SkillsUSA, made up of students at Lamar Consolidated and Terry high schools represented their schools and their district at the state competition in Corpus Christi, bringing home several gold medals.
SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. The combined Lamar and Terry High School Chapter 3696 competed in Criminal Justice events
The team of Chiamaka Ujari, Chioma Ujari, Mayowa Amu, Fernanda Soto, Ogechi Ujari and Angel Gonzalez (all from LCHS) earned the gold medal Chapter Business Procedure. The team will represent Texas in the National competition in Kansas City this summer. The chapter is the 3-time defending state champs and came in 5th in the nation the last two years.
The team of Hunter Holmes, Jayden Shields, Randy Weishiemer (THS) and Benita Dehen (LCHS) earned gold in the Criminal Justice Quiz Bowl.
The team of Hunter Holmes and Randy Weishiemer (THS) earned silver medals for Felony Traffic Stop.
Maria Ocanas (THS) earned the bronze for Felony Traffic Stop Technical Test.
Two other programs also competed in Corpus Christi.
The Construction Technology program from Terry High School earned two recognitions. Pablo Juarez and Drew Fritsch’s Foosball Table and Jose Escobar, Hermes Villafranco and Angel Ramirez’s Texan Bench both placed Superior at the competition.
The Automotive program housed at Lamar Consolidated High School also competed, earning awards in the Photo Panel competition.
Genesis Ordonez (LCHS), Kameron Rodriguez (GRHS) and Allen Wilson (GRHS) earned Blue Ribbon for Superior work and Chris Salazar (GRHS) earned Red Ribbon for his Excellent work.
Dr. Fred Guess is the sponsor of the SkillsUSA Criminal Justice program. Michael Ramon teaches Construction at Terry High School and Deon Wilson heads the Automotive program.
