Dr. Michael Milstead Inducted into Hall of Fame

On Feb. 21, Dr. Michael Milstead was presented with the Excellence in Education award by Texas Southern University. This award and Dr. Milstead’s dedication to education paved the path for his induction into the Texas Southern University College of Education’s Hall of Fame.

The Texas Southern University College of Education’s Hall of Fame was established in 2006 under the leadership of Dr. Jay Cummings, former Dean of the College of Education. The purpose of the Hall of Fame is to recognize individuals who have distinguished themselves in the field of education.

Dr. Milstead was chosen to be inducted into the Hall of Fame by TSU’s current dean, Dr. Lillian Poats. Dr. Milstead has displayed the qualities and characteristics of an extraordinary educator throughout his career with almost three decades of serving students in Title I schools.

Prior to serving Lamar CISD as the Districtwide Administrator for Truancy and Drop Out Prevention, Dr. Milstead was a teacher and principal for both elementary and secondary campuses. Most recently, he served as the principal of Lamar Consolidated High School.

Dr. Milstead possesses a keen understanding of the importance in providing a culturally relevant and responsive curriculum to meet the academic needs of all students. Dr. Milstead is congratulated for embodying the qualities that are valued in the field of education.
