Lamar CISD staff receive hotspots donated by the T.W. Davis Family YMCA. The hotspots will benefit students participating in virtual learning across the District.

Lamar CISD recently received a generous donation of hotspots and internet service provided by the T.W. Davis Family YMCA and two grant awards from The Henderson-Wessendorff Foundation to be used for hotspots and internet service. Additionally, the grants provided by Henderson-Wessendorff will be used to purchase specialized laptops for Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses in information technology and engineering. These combined awards will benefit more than 2,000 households across the District.

“We, the T.W. Davis Family YMCA, are so excited to be able to support the community in this unique way during the current unpredictable time,” said Katlynn Balson, Youth Development Director. “At the YMCA, we strive to support our community in diverse areas. However, we can’t do it alone. We love collaborating with partners and local organizations to assure our community members thrive, and there is no better partner to support our children and families than LCISD.”

Lamar CISD also recently received up to $500,000 in reimbursable expenses for technology needs provided by The George Foundation. Read the full George Foundation release here.

Lamar CISD staff members have worked diligently over the last few months to ensure every household received a device for virtual learning due to COVID-19. With these additional hotspots and internet service for students in need, families will no longer have to use alternate locations to attend virtual classes and submit assigned schoolwork.
