Valedictorian Andrew Kunz is the son of Cheryl Kunz and Troy Kunz. He has been accepted into Texas A&M University, where he will double major in Business and Finance. Andrew's passion for business and finance has inspired him to pursue a career in this field.
During his time at Foster, Andrew served as the president of DECA, a varsity baseball and football player, Executive Committee of AP Ambassadors, and a tutor. Andrew volunteered with Lunches of Love, Lamar Little League, and the Richmond Train Museum.
Andrew has received several honors and scholarships, including the Brown Foundation Scholarship, President’s Endowed Scholarship, Mays Business Scholarship, Apache Corporation Scholarship, and Touchdown Club of Houston Athlete Scholarship. He has also been recognized as a National Merit Scholar, Football Academic Elite team for Texas, 2nd Place Scholar Athlete of the Year by Touchdown Club of Houston, DECA state winner, and an AP Scholar with Honors.
Andrew's favorite quote is a scripture verse from Isaiah 41:10, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Andrew would like to recognize the individuals who have supported him throughout his academic journey. He would like to thank God for every opportunity and blessing, his mom for being there for anything he needs, his dad for showing him everything he knows, Coach Jackson for being his biggest critic and supporter all in one, Leighann Dawson for giving him the opportunity to lead while
guiding him, and Alison Leslie for being one of the most caring people he knows.
Andrew’s goals are to leave a positive legacy, to provide a good life for his family, and to leave the world a little nicer than when he arrived. During his free time, he enjoys basketball, cornhole, board/card games, sports video games (occasionally), and hanging out with friends.
Salutatorian Mazen Hassouna is the son of Linda Hassouna and Rasmy Hassouna. He will attend the University of Texas, where he will major in Mechanical Engineering and eventually pursue a career in this field. He would prefer a creative job and would like his work to be something he genuinely enjoys.
During his time at Foster, Mazen participated in tennis, Dungeons and Dragons, the National Honor Society, DECA, and Student Council. He is also an AP Scholar with distinction and a National Merit Scholar contestant.
Mazen's favorite quote by Malcom X speaks to his awareness of the power dynamics at play in our society, “The media's the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that's power. Because they control the minds of the masses.”
Mazen would like to recognize his friend Akimbiko, who showed him that any setback should be met with resilience and not defeat.
It’s Mazen’s goal to be rich enough to give back to family and the needy, and help others even after he is gone. In his free time, he enjoys working out, playing tennis and video games.
We congratulate both scholars on their impressive achievements and wish them the best in all future endeavors.
