Weather Advisory for January 17

Jan 16, 2024 | Lamar CISD Communications

Good afternoon Lamar CISD Families,

We hope our community has remained safe and warm during this winter weather. The safety of all students and staff is our greatest priority when making decisions about school operations.

After coordinating with local officials and evaluating the latest weather conditions, we will continue with normal school operations on Wednesday, January 17.

We understand the challenges that come with cold temperatures, which also impact morning commutes and routines. We have provided a few recommendations and changes to our procedures to make this return as smooth as possible:

  • While all school buses will run as scheduled, we understand you may not want your student waiting outside in these cold temperatures. If your schedule permits, we encourage families to drive students to school vs. taking the bus. Additionally, we have asked campus principals to ensure that school buildings are open at least 30 minutes earlier than the usual schedule to receive students if parents need to drop students off earlier.
  • While road conditions are expected to be good, we encourage everyone to take their time driving. We will not begin counting tardies until after 10:00 AM. This grace period is intended to give families some flexibility in their morning commute.
  • Please ensure that students come dressed warmly, with appropriate layers, to ensure their comfort during the day.

The District will continue to provide updates as necessary via Skylert, website, and District social media accounts.

Parents/guardians, please note that additional information may be sent directly from campuses and/or program coordinators for extracurricular activities.
