Hello Coyote Families. I’m Mrs. Hernandez and I feel very privileged to be one of the counselors on campus this year! I grew up in the Rosenberg/Richmond area and attended Lamar Consolidated ISD as a student. I graduated from B.F. Terry High School and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education from The University of Houston . This will be my 14th year serving in education. Through my years of teaching in LCISD, I continued my studies and received a Master’s Degree in Professional School Counseling from Lamar University.
As one of the counselors at Carter, I plan to diligently work in providing the support our students and families need to grow our Coyotes into successful citizens of our community. As we work together to develop positive character and ethical behavior, I will continue to nurture the warm and welcoming school culture Carter Elementary provides daily. I look forward to a great year and a successful future for our children.
Hey Carter Coyotes! My name is Marissa Patel and I am thrilled to begin my tenth year in education as a counselor at Carter Elementary. I graduated with my education degree from the University of Houston (go Coogs!) and my Masters in School Counseling from Lamar University. Prior to coming to Carter, I taught a variety of subjects in third, fourth, and sixth grade. At home I have a wonderful husband and daughter along with two adorable fur babies.
I am honored to work in education. As a counselor at Carter Elementary, my job is to collaborate with parents and teachers to ensure that our students’ unique needs are met so that they may reach their fullest potential as responsible citizens and lifelong learners. I am extremely excited for this year and the opportunities that are to come for our students.
Please stop in to say hello!
This school year, we will continue using Character Counts, which will be implemented at all LCISD campuses. We will be conducting guidance lessons in all classes for each of the six pillars.
Character Counts Pillars:
1- Trustworthiness (September)
2- Respect (October)
3- Responsibility (November/December)
4- Fairness (January/ February)
5- Caring (March)
6- Citizenship (April/May)

- Require your child to clean and organize his/her backpack one day per week.
- Communicate with teachers about child’s progress and any concerns you may have.
- Create a designated homework area for your child.
- Make a plan to recognize your child’s academic accomplishments.
Carter Elementary is proud to be recognized as a No Place For Hate school campus and community. Our official banner will hang proudly in our school cafeteria.
About the program: The No Place for Hate® initiative provides educators and students with the resources to ensure that anti-bias and diversity education are an integral part of the school curriculum. No Place for Hate® also helps to create and sustain inclusive school environments where all students feel valued and have the opportunity to succeed by promoting respect for individual difference while challenging bigotry and prejudice. Launched in schools in 2001, the popular initiative has been embraced by hundreds of campuses throughout the Southwest region, including many in the Houston, Austin/Central Texas and El Paso areas.
