Six Lamar CISD students are participating in the National Achievement Scholarship Program, which recognizes academically talented African-American students.
Foster High School’s Afam Agbu and Imani Cutler, George Ranch High School's Daniel Pearsall and Diego Perez and Lamar Consolidated High School’s Somkene Oduche and Chimdindu Orakwue are recognized in this year’s scholarship process.
Students recognized with this honor are among the top 3 percent of more than 160,000 black Americans who requested consideration in the 2015 National Achievement Program when they took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
The National Achievement Program, conducted by National Merit Scholarship Corporation, is a privately financed academic competition that operates without government assistance. It was initiated in 1964 to recognize academically promising black students throughout the nation and to provide scholarships to a substantial number of the most outstanding program participants.
