Two of our Project Lead the Way and TSA students, Emily Dunn and Robin McKee, were invited to participate in the Born Global International challenge run out of Boston University. They partnered with a student in Taiwan as well as students at Boston University to engineer a solution to a world problem using biomimicry, the use of nature to solve human problems. Our students created an artificial leaf that makes fuel out of sunlight. It bio-mimics how real leaves create food with photosynthesis.
In addition to their recognition by Boston University, our students will receive a $2500 prize. Also, Emily Dunn impressed the professor leading the group so much that she has been offered to work on another project this summer, despite only being a junior in high school.
Born Global, a 501c3 environmental nonprofit with offices in the USA, France, and Lebanon works with selected US high school students to partner them with international students. The students research a chosen societal or environmental issue and have the opportunity to be mentored by industry professionals as well as undergraduate and graduate students from several different institutions including Boston University, Cornell University, and the University of Pennsylvania.
Thank you for your continued support of TSA and our engineering program at LCHS!
