Assistant Principal Selection Process

In LCISD, we believe all leaders have a Passion for People, a Drive for Results, and a Plan for Success. Assistant Principals in LCISD are considered Leaders of Leaders, and our selection process is designed to assess qualities within each of these areas. Step 1 – Online Application

  • Submit an online administrative application at https://winoc.lcisd.org/WorkSpace
    • The online application collects general candidate information and includes short answer questions aligned with LCISD's leadership definition
    • When completing the application, be sure to include the following:
      • Complete and current employment history
      • Three references including your current supervisor
        • References' email addresses must be provided, and they must complete the electronic reference form that is emailed to them
        • The references you include must have supervised your employment
    • Upload required supporting documents including resume/cover letter, certificate(s), transcript(s), and most recent evaluation 
    • Incomplete applications will not be considered

Step 2 – AP Pool Interview

  • Selected candidates will be invited to register for an AP Pool Interview
  • Candidates will interview with a cross-functional committee comprised of campus leaders, HR staff and district level leaders
  • Interview questions and activities will be aligned with LCISD's leadership definition
  • Responses will be scored against a rubric

Step 3 – Entry into AP Candidate Pool

  • Candidates selected for the AP Candidate Pool will be notified of specific campus vacancies and invited to apply
  • Candidates who are not selected for the AP Candidate Pool may reapply in one year
  • Candidates can remain in the pool for 2 years before reapplying

Step 4 – Campus-Based Interview

  • Selected candidates will be invited to interview with a committee comprised of the principal, campus staff, parents, and Area Superintendent
  • Principals will follow provided protocols for conducting interviews and use question banks aligned with LCISD's leadership definition
  • Responses will be scored against a rubric

Step 5 – District Leadership Interview

  • Selected candidates will be invited to interview with the principal and other members of the district leadership team
  • With input from the other committee members, the principal will make a recommendation for hire

Criteria for Employment in Lamar CISD

To be employed as a teacher in Lamar CISD, you must provide:

  • Official transcripts reflecting a Bachelor’s degree earned from an accredited university. For out-of-country transcripts, submit an original evaluation from a recognized foreign credential evaluation service
  • A valid Texas teaching certificate or Statement of Eligibility from an Alternative Certification Program/University post Baccalaureate Program.

Alternative Certification:

Individuals who hold a bachelor's degree (in an area that does not lead to teacher certification) and are interested in becoming a teacher must pursue one of two paths to become a teacher in the state of Texas. Those individuals may pursue enrollment into an Alternative Certification Program (ACP) or enroll in a Post Baccalaureate Program that leads to teacher certification at the university level.

Teachers who are going through an ACP must be issued a Statement of Eligibility before being hired. Each program will differ somewhat in program requirements. Click here to see an overview of the process and a list of approved programs.

Additional Certification by Exam:

All teachers in the state of Texas are required by the TEA to complete state mandated exams before being eligible for certification.

Out-of-State/Out-of-Country Certification Information:

Teachers who hold an Out-of-State or Out-of-Country certificate must apply and pay online for a review of credentials and a One-Year certificate with TEA. Once the review is complete, the teacher will receive an email from TEA, which will include the required tests and the eligibility for a One-Year certificate. Acceptable proof of oral English language proficiency must be submitted before a certificate can be issued for Out-of-Country certificates. For more information regarding this process, click here.


Lamar CISD offers several types of teacher aide positions that support instruction in Special Education, physical education, Pre-Kindergarten, and bilingual/ESL classrooms. Positions at Non-Title I Campuses:

    Regular Ed Aide Positions:

    • 15 semester hours of college coursework from a regionally accredited college or university OR two years of full-time work-related experience with students in an instructional or childcare facility

    Special Ed Aide Positions:

    • 30 semester hours of college coursework from a regionally accredited college or university OR three years of full-time work-related experience with students in an instructional or childcare facility

Positions at Title I Campuses:

    • 48 semester hours of college coursework from a regionally accredited college or university OR meets NCLB requirements for Highly Qualified Paraprofessionals

How do I become a substitute?

  1. Complete the online substitute application. Be sure to include a minimum of three professional references (former or current supervisors). You must provide their email addresses on your application.
  2. Once your references have been received by Human Resources, send an email to [email protected] to request access to the online substitute orientation.
  3. After successfully completing the online orientation, you will be provided instructions for completing the state-mandated fingerprinting process. Each substitute will be required to pay for their own fingerprinting (approximately $47.00 -$55.00).
  4. Bring your fingerprint receipt to Human Resources along with supporting documents for I-9 and official transcripts (detailed instructions regarding these documents will be emailed to you).
  5. Complete a one-time registration in our sub system and you're ready to begin subbing!

Instructions for Student Teacher Placement

The following instructions apply to students enrolled in a university or alternative certification program.

  1. Complete the Volunteer Application.
  2. After you have submitted the application, your university or alternative certification program (ACP) director should contact Irene Salinas with an official request for your placement. This request must be sent via email to [email protected] or by mail to 3911 Avenue I, Rosenberg, TX 77471 and must contain the following:
    • Contact information for university or ACP director
    • First and last name of the candidate
    • Pending certification
    • Preferred campuses
    • Preferred subject
    • Number of placements required
    • Date student teaching assignment will begin and end
  3. Once the above information has been received, details regarding your placement will be sent to your university or ACP director.

Instructions for Student Observers

The following instructions apply to individuals who must complete observation hours in order to satisfy college course requirements.

  1. Complete the Volunteer Application.
  2. Complete the Observation Request Form.
  3. You will be contacted by the Human Resources department in 3 to 5 business days via email.

Observation Guidelines

  • Observation requests are accepted at the beginning of each semester term.
  • Fall observations begin after the third week in September and end the last week of November.
  • Spring observations begin the third week in January and end the last week of March.
  • Approved observation time frames are by semester and do not extend into another semester.
  • LCISD will approve no more than 30 hours per semester per student and limits the number of observers placed at each campus. Placements are on a first come, first served basis for those who have provided all the requested information.
  • Submitting all requirements is the responsibility of the observer.
  • Observations are not scheduled during summer school.
  • All observers are required to dress professionally.
  • Personal cell phone use during observations is prohibited.
  • Follow the campus check in procedures, which requires your driver’s license or state-issued ID.
  • Remember that all student information is confidential.
  • You may only observe at the campuses to which Human Resources assigns you.
  • You may not observe in your child’s classroom.
  • The campus administrator has the authority to deny or discontinue requests for observation hours.
  • Respect the campus, students, teachers, and classrooms you are assigned to observe.
