2023-2024 COVID-19 Protocols

Overview

As we prepare for the 2023-2024 school year, Lamar CISD looks forward to welcoming our students back to campus. The district continues to work in partnership with local and state health officials to monitor the spread of viruses in the community. 

Lamar CISD is committed to creating a safe learning environment for our students and staff. To ensure safe in-person learning experiences, the following COVID-19 protocols will be in place in District facilities for the 2023-2024 school year.

 

Disease Mitigation Protocols

Face Covering Protocols

Face coverings are optional. Parents are best equipped to decide whether their child should wear a mask.
The district will support any student or staff member who chooses to wear a face covering.

Screening Protocols

Parents/guardians are recommended to screen their students each day prior to sending their student to school:

  • Feeling feverish or a measured temperature greater than or equal to 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit

  • New Loss of taste or smell

  • Cough

  • Difficulty breathing

  • Shortness of breath

  • Fatigue

  • Headache

  • Chills

  • Sore throat

  • Congestion or runny nose

  • Significant muscle pain or ache

  • Diarrhea

  • Nausea or vomiting

*If your student is exhibiting one or more of these symptoms outside your child’s norm, the student should be evaluated by their medical provider and not return to school. Nurses will continuously monitor the screening process and follow up with the parent/guardian on the health status of the students.

Teachers will monitor students and refer to the nurse if symptoms are present.

 Cleaning & Disinfecting

  • Each District facility will be cleaned and disinfected daily, including high-touch surfaces.

  • The cafeteria tables will be cleaned between lunch periods.

  • Staff will Emist District facilities monthly and as needed.

Individuals Confirmed or Suspected with COVID-19

Any student or staff member who tests positive for COVID-19 must inform their principal/supervisor of the positive case. While Lamar CISD will not conduct contact tracing during the 2023-2024 school year, per TEA directives, the district must continue to report positive cases to the Fort Bend County Health Department.

  • Any student or staff member with a lab-confirmed COVID-19 positive test or suspected of having COVID-19 shall be excluded from attendance at school/work. Exclusion shall continue until the readmission criteria for the conditions are met. The readmission criteria for COVID-19 are as follows:

  • Students and staff may return when:

    • If symptomatic, at least 5 days have passed since symptom onset, and fever free*, and other symptoms have improved.

    • For those with no symptoms, at least 5 days after the day they tested positive.

    Fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever suppressing medications. Fever is a temperature of 100° Fahrenheit (37.8° Celsius) or higher.

    Staff members with a lab-confirmed positive COVID-19 test must use their own absence accruals unless they are enrolled in the District’s Sick Leave Bank. The Sick Leave Bank will be available for employee-related absences that are due to catastrophic COVID-related illnesses.

Exposure and Quarantine

  • Lamar CISD will not conduct contact tracing or quarantine individuals during the 2023-2024 school year.

  • Compulsory attendance still applies for students. Any student placed in quarantine by an outside entity (physician, County, parent, etc.) will need to provide documentation to the campus for the absences to be excused.

Protocols for Campus Visitors

All visitors can fully participate on campuses and in campus activities and events.

This means that visitors can join their students for lunch and activities, as well as attend events, celebrations, etc.

Please be assured Lamar CISD will strive to keep the following measures in place:

  • Campuses will be cleaned and sanitized on a routine basis.

  • Hand sanitizers will continue to be readily available throughout our campuses.

Campus Operations

All campus operations will return to normal for the 2023-2024 school year. Campuses will no longer have directional hallways, and class transitions and arrival/dismissal procedures can return to normal. 

Campuses can plan after-school events such as dances and proms and attend in-person field trips and student competitions.

Staff can attend in-person professional development, as necessary.

Transportation

Buses will be regularly cleaned, focusing on high-touch areas such as bus seats, steering wheels, and door handles.

Athletics and Fine Arts

All athletics and fine arts activities will continue as normal and gym/stadium/auditorium capacity is 100 percent.
